You need a Google Account

Google Photos is an on-line, or Internet service. This means that information is securely stored for you on Google's computers on the Internet. This lets you securely update, access and share this information. To do this, you need an account. You access your account by using a combination of an email address (which acts like an Account Number) and a password (a secret combination that only you know). Google Photos requires a Google account.

It's possible that you already have a Google account. If you have a Gmail address, it is also your Google account ID and gives you access to all of Google's services, not just email. If you have an Android based phone, you most likely have a Google account, because many smartphones require a Google account sign-in during initial setup.

If you don't have a Google account, you will have a chance to make one the first time you use Google Photos. We'll cover those details below.

Accessing Google Photos is very different depending what device you are using. Skip to the section below related to whether you are:

Using Google Photos on a Windows 10 Computer

To access Google Photos on your computer:

1️⃣ On an Internet browser (Chrome, The Edge...) go to photos.google.com. If you are not already signed in, you will see the following screen:

2️⃣ If you have a Google account simply sign in. Otherwise, follow the instructions for Creating a Google Account at the bot


Using Google Photos on an iPhone or iPad

To access Google Photos on your computer:

1️⃣ On an Internet browser (Chrome, The Edge...) go to photos.google.com. If you are not already signed in, you will see the following screen:

Find and select the Go To Google Photos button.

  1. Write down your email and password combination in a safe place.
